More Than Meets The Eye.....

At a recent robot competition in Tokyo RAYERD-X -The Magical Robot placed 9th.
It's own unique design probably hindered it from placing higher as judges have not seen a robot quite like this one.
"At first it looks like a short tower, then becomes a carousel, then a walking spider, then into a tall biped battle robot. It can even transform an arm into a new leg and keep on fighting." VIDEO
It's great to see interest in robots moving away from battling each other to death and toward more complex and advanced uses.

Transformers

It seams that every time I turn around there are more and more transformable robots.I posted about on at the same competition a while ago. Still even I have to amid the spider like Rared-x is better than the car transformer robot I posted about.
The real question is, what industrial applications will this technology have?

There's a lot to be said for self-configuring and self-repairing machines that can adapt to their environment. We're just beginning to scratch the surface of what can be done. While there probably aren't industrial applications right around the corner, the basic technology holds a lot of promise.

I guess that these "tinkers" are the people who push the envelope. I can remember when it people were still trying to get robots to walk. Any incremental technological advance is good for all of industry I guess. I know that there is a rise in more commercial applications for robots, it just seams that there should be more that can be applied.
