Looking For An Image Analyzing Software

12/31/2007 3:57 AM

Hi friends,

I am new to this forum and I am looking for a help to solve my problem. I am a research student of Chemical Engineering and my research area mainly lies in polymers. I have got pictures of polymers in which fibers are there [in .jpeg format]. Now, I have to analyze the properties of polymer based on the length and number of fibers in the picture. I also want to find the orientation of fibers in the picture. For a long time, I have been looking for an image analyzing software to help me perform this task and I want to purchase it. Please reply as soon as possible. Any information on such type of software or any other suggestion would be helpful.

Thanx

I've already seen all the image processing tools and options in matlab....but it doesn't solve my problem......i want a software that can detect the the fibers in the picture, their length and orientation also.

Also look at www.tucows.com for shareware software,

you want to get some color into your image to sort out the pieces, we use these software for infrared to analyze them.

I have seen other analysis software with measurement, etc capabilities but all were expensive.

yes you can use matlab but "matlab" is programing language then 1st you need to learn some data about it you can use "emlue" search to find some related books about you can write this name an you will find the book "Mathematics - Graphing with matlab.pdf"

Try a medical research department. They sometimes do an analysis of microscopic images in order to diagnose medical problems.

Also - in metallurgical research they do crystallography for which they do computerised shape analysis on images.

Try large and expensive microscope makers' catalogues.

Google several appropriate wordings of 'computerised shape analysis'.

Hye...

I am polymer engineering student, for ur information i ever done to analyze and characterize the fiber length... In my school i use Image Pro-Plus software...but i have another software which is easier to get it is image tool (UTHSCSA Image Tool)... the characterize is the same..in that software u just needed to calibrate the unit of image.I hope this suggestion can settle ur problem.

2 software can used to measure the fiber length as shown in this figure 1) Image Tool Software 2) Image Pro-Plus Software

1)

2)

This figure shows how to measure the cell size of foam.... beside that via this software we can measure and characterize other material..

ImageJ ( http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/ ) is a free, open source image analysis system that enjoys wide support. It is supported by the National Institute of Health and a large, active user community. It's original focus is biological image analysis, but is used by many in other fields including material science.

I just did a quick search on its user archive (at https://list.nih.gov/archives/imagej.html ) for "fiber" and got 36 hits. I think you may find what you're looking for there.
