Pollution Monitoring

12/31/2007 11:36 AM

Does anybody knows the essence of installing pollution monitoring devices on Insulators in the Transmission Line?

What are you asking, actually? What type of pollutants are you monitoring for, gaseous, liquids, solids, noise etc? Your mention of insulators and transmitters imply either electrical or radio. Without details no one can answer your question properly.

Concur with DVader1000 - can provide help (maybe) but without enough information - no way. What potential pollutants? What do you mean by "on insulators in the transmission line"? This sounds like "on electrical insulators on power transmission lines", so it sounds like air pollutants, but I'm unclear as to why this would be a logical location.

Gents,

The basics of insulators' pollution processes are first reviewed, including the main physical and chemical factors involved. A novel fibre-optic-based device for measuring leakage and burst current is described, including the mechanical mounting, electronic modules and the corresponding hardware and calibration software of the equipment developed. A comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the design with similar equipment is presented. Finally, experimental results in a fog chamber are presented. Some statistical analyses, that can be useful in understanding the pollution process in electrical insulators, was wahat i was looking for! i hope this shed more light on the issue.

thanks

OK, now this is starting to sound like a request for information about pollutants IN electrical insulators, perhaps reducing the insulation capability? You used the words "reviewed", "described", and "presented", leading me to believe you are talking about either a technical review or a research paper. What is that source work? Perhaps a look at that would provide better understanding and allow a decision to be taken as to whether this is, indeed, something I can assist with.

Well...in a word, no. I'm still not clear if you are monitoring pollutants from sensors mounted on insulators, or monitoring pollutants in insulators.

1. What are the pollutants in question?

2. Where are the monitors to be located?

3. Where are the insulators mounted?
