it is an isolation transformer that has the same number of winding on each coil.

used in

  • DC blocking
  • Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) blocking
  • Ground lift and device isolation
  • Protection from EMP :p

The 1:1 isolating transformer can also be used to isolate parts of a circuit in the event of an earth (ground) fault.

Sometime we use 1:1 transformer in Main Lighting Distribution Board to reduce the fault current flowing to downstream Lighting DB where fault level is 9 to 10 KA.
