DC Shunt motor in overload condition

01/11/2008 8:48 AM

Dear Readers:

I am in a process to evaluate the behaviour of DC Shunt motor (660KW) in overloading conditions such as rolling mill applications. can anyone assist me?

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply. Actually we work in a rolling mill where a dc motor of 1250HP is being used for driving passes through gear system... The management is planning to separate the last one or two passes which will later be driven by 660KW dc motor...that means we will have two different motors driven separately...righ.

The last passes takes avg. 1300 to 1400 current during normal production and reaches 1800A when larger product dia is executed...... again with the proposed cased will it be feasible to drive these passes through 660KW motor? My opinion is that the max rated current of 660KW motor is 950A and hence it will not work.....What do you suggest Mike?
