Proposal Promotes Fluid Power

04/20/2006 10:00 AM

The National Fluid Power Association is proposing an Engineering Research Center dedicated to growing the fluid power industry. Instead of a centralized campus, NFPA envisions a network of schools and universities working in partnership with industry. Goals include:

- The promotion of fluid power R&D
- More public awareness of the importance of fluid power
- Expanded industry applications

A grant proposal has been submitted to the National Science Foundation, and industry stakeholders have pledged more than $3 million.

Distance Learning

I like the decentralized approach for an ERC, but hope that distance learning will also be one of its features.

Fluid Power ERC

05/03/2006 1:19 PM

Fluid power is one of things that really strikes awe when witnessed up close. Next time you hire a contractor with a backhoe stick around and watch what kind of power comes out of a 4 inch cylinder. Even better, for your next birthday, ask for a one day rental of a small excavator and have some fun. I did it a year or so ago and I can't overemphasize the fun and therapeutic value of 6 hours in the seat digging holes and pulling stumps.
