sorry for inconvenience but i mean that the ball valve is already supplied with pup piece end of length 500mm. instead of flanges. What i want to weld is the welded end pipes of the ball valve to the main pipe.
My question directly is about the possibility of welding a pipe API 5L X52 PSL1 with another of the same spec. but PSL2
Well if memory recall is correct, as it has been a while since I did any Pipe Mill Surveillance, the difference between PSL-1 and PSL-2 are nothing more than added frequency and amount of testing done in a mill's lab. I still see plenty of PSL-1 and PSL-2 mixed in the field during installation at the ditch. Just check the MTR's of both Pipe and Valve and you should see what I mean. Peers, if I am wrong chastise me.
Also check out API 5CT and API 1104 to see some relationships that may address your query.
If your valve is with weld end prep, you can always weld a pup piece to any ball valve.
The precaution you should take is to ensure while welding the temperature in the seat area does not go beyond 100 deg C.There is possibilty of seat damage if this is constructed out of any elastomers .Teflon will withstand higher temperatures but check if the valve contains teflon seats.Often Nylon is used which is not thermally stable.
Considering the large size of valve,it would be possible to safely weld the pups.
Use templesticks to monitor the temp rise during the welding process.
