I'm really lost

01/30/2008 3:04 PM

Hi, I'm a junior engineer looking for methods and way of designing earthing transformers. I'm a 24 year woman and I can't get any respect if I don't know something more than all the men at my work place. What I'm recently interested in is those earthing transformers but I don't have any books about them. Please give me a hint.

By the way I'm from Bulgaria, saying that because of my English grammar.

It would be really helpful if you could describe a bit more about what you are trying to do. What is the application? Why do you need to know about earthing transformers? Are you working on a project? Are you trying to develop a new product?

Or are you just trying to get the men in the work place to give you some

Actually, I'm trying to adopt manufacturing of earthing transformers but first I need to know how to design them, what is specific about those transformers. We do make transformers from 25kVA up to 2500kVA but I know we will do much better if we can make the earthing type because the market needs them. And I've got no books, no ideas.

And yes, I'm trying to get some respect.

Don't take it personally. One of the best engineers I ever met (she used to sucessfully build experimental airplanes out of junk she would find on the curb) had trouble with respect.

But, we're mostly willing to help and some of us (not me) actually know something. Give us a full description, even sketches if you can. And, be patient with our off-color, sarcastic answers.

Welcome.

Here are the parameters of the reqiured earthing transformer

HV side - 34kV Zo = 51,35Ω per phase

LV side - 0,415kV

Symbol of connection - ZnYn

Phase withstand current 200A for 15 sec

Neutral withstand current 600A for 15 sec

Keep in mind that we've got a little bit different standard like frequency 50Hz but I think the methods are similar.
