Sewing Fabric onto Metal Mesh

02/01/2008 11:15 AM

How can I find a vendor who can sew a fabric-like material onto a metal mesh?

Do you mean to weave the material into something like a window a screen? I'd try

Sewing and metal seem a bit incongruous, but try: Textile Network, Inc.. Lafayette, Colorado (303) 666-9599.

To clarify - I have a metal mesh with a pattern of diamond shaped holes. I have a felt material that I need to attach securely to the metal mesh. We can't use another means of attaching - such as adhesive - as that won't work for this application. We have hand-sewn it and proven that it performs as needed, but this won't work when we need to make thousands of these. A regular sewing machine is difficult to set so that the needle always hits the holes instead of the metal. Are there special machines that could be programmed to the pattern? Or maybe something that would sense the metal and avoid putting the needle down?

Thanks for any help!
