DRA calculation

02/02/2008 11:34 PM

I would like to have assistance on how to calculate DRA presence in Gasoline product.

DRA (Drag Reducing Agent) is injected to crude and refined products to increase the flow rate in long distance pipelines.

thanks

I don't know whether DRAs are used in refineries but in all of the large merchant ships that use bunkers or residual fuel in their large low speed diesel engines they all used to have tank heating in all of their ships tanks and service tanks. All fuel lines had steam tracers on them to keep the fuel hot so that it will flow.

In some cases if the oil became cold in the lines I have heard it said the all fuel lines are removed and cleaned manually and that would not be a nice job.

Things may have changed over the last 10-15 years, but I haven't heard.
