Before selecting any cable chart first you have to decide the utility of cable(Power,control, lighting, communication).Then the type of cable that is to be chosen(PILC,PVC, XLPE ) Permissible expenditure.

Weather HT or LT cable if HT then what voltage,weather earthed or un earthed system.

If it is LT cable single phase or three phase 3 core or 4 core or 3 1/2 core.

For selection of size of cable, the cable manufacturers are providing ready made charts.

The size of HT cables (11,22,33 Kv cables )are determined by the continuous rated current and the short circuit current rating.

The size of LT cable (1.1 ,3.3 or 6.6 Kv cables) cables are determined by the continuous current rating and maximum permissible voltage drop.

Then depth of of cable laying is another criteria. The ambient temperature of the location where the cable to be used is another factor. All these parameters are important factors to be known before deciding the size of cable

Charts are available with parameters and factor of safety. SO elaborate your thread with all possible parameters to get a correct solution or proper advice.
