Can a Tripod be calculated as a simple beam with a center load?

I do not know which kind of tripod you mean. If it is the structure of a pick and place robot or an other structure with all legs articulated at both ends then you can consider every leg as a beam loaded with an axial force since the articulations (bearings ) do not allow the transmission of bending moments.

The structure can be analysed as any other space structure consisting of beams. It is the usual way to analyse from a mechanical point of view such structures.

Your problem will be to determine the right values for the loads.
