Some sound cards are not compatable with Vista. For instance, my sound blaster live value card is not supported. I tried some 3rd party drivers, which did not work. It seems the problem is the 15 pin game port used for joystick or MIDI input. If your card has this port, there is a good chance it is not supported.

AccuDave is probably correct - but the message you get sounds more like it doesn't see the speakers connected. If you check your sound system via control panel/sounds and devices/sound tab etc - you should be able to isolate the cause.

Make sure you are downloading from the sound card manufacturers website and that you are downloading the audio device drivers for Vista.

Go to start / right click / My Computer / Clk properties / clk device manager- yes you are sure / see if any yellow or red flags. If flags follow directions to update drivers. Delete current driver and/or device; reboot, reinstall software; reboot, then update driver; reboot for each flagged entry... Can be exhausting process.

Check windows update site.

Check to make sure your BIOS is up to date, open computer and get processor and mother board info, check manufacturers website for update for Vista.

Respond after.

You may need an Audio bus driver.

This is not part of your sound card software but some other add on.

I needed one to get my HP laptop audio working.

I think I got it from the driver from the microsoft website.

Anyway, if you have any "Unknown" ? symbols in the driver list this is probably it.

Took me a while of pokeing around in doc to find this out.
