Stiffeners for HE channel cover deflection

05/03/2006 7:00 AM

RAJ writes:
While checking the required thickness of a Channel cover for heat exchanger it was found that the deflection at the centre of cover is exceeding the allowable deflection. We have planned to provide cross stiffeners on the outside surface of the channel cover. In this regard can somebody help me how to design the stiffener size and nos. to counter the excess deflection at the centre.
Note: A new cover with higher thickness would be planned at later date but as a temporary measures we are planning to provide the stiffners to the old covers.

You give no dimensions for this cover and how thick it is, nor what temp it is exposed to. It is impossible to give any help without more info. How much clearance is above this assembly? Is the cover steel or some other material? So width, length, thickness, and material used. Max temp involved, and how much is it bowing. Then we can talk turkey.
