The purpose of the space heater is to prevent/remove condensation from the equipment. New equipment may have significant condensation inside due to temperature changes or high humidity.

Energize the heaters first, and verify that they are actually producing heat. For inaccessible heaters, use a clamp-on ammeter to check the current to the heater. After the heaters have been on continuously for at least 24 hours, perform a ground resistance test (a megger test is usually sufficient). Only after a satisfactory ground resistance test should the main equipment be energized.

it will be prudent to energise the space heaters as soon as the motors are installed to prevent further absorption of moisture. Before commissioning the motor check the IR value and if its low then heating to drive out moisture absorbed during storage /transit will be required.space heater cannot do that.Space heater wattage is normally sufficient to prevent moisture from condensation. In large machines space heaters come on when the motors are stopped and cut off after starting with certain time allowance or instantly as may be required by location.
