Last Human Chromosome Sequenced

05/18/2006 9:26 AM

The Human Genome Project at the Sanger Institute in England has sequenced the last chromosome in the Human Genome. This chromosome, Chromosome 1, is made up of 3,141 genes which are linked to some 350 illnesses, including cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This effectively closes the book on the Human Genome Project, which started in 1990.

Now that we essentially know what makes us tick, hopefully it will be used in good ways.
