Chart Recorders for Hydrostatic Test Bench

03/08/2008 6:23 PM

Hi, Im designing a Hydrostatic Test Bench and I need a Chart Recorder...

I was thinking on Barton, but It seems is obsolete.

There are some new electronic chart recorders, like this

http://www.omega.com/pptst/RD9900.html

but I need someone like that, that works with batteries, because I need do some testings in field, and sometimes we haven`t any electric source diferent than a generator.

Any body knows an Chart recorder that work with batteries?

Thanks

What type of data are you needing to record? If it's just temp. and Rh, and dewpoint there are many data loggers available that are battery powered.

For field testing its always better to use mechanical chart recorders like ITT Barton with mechanical chart drive (of 24Hr./7 day or 2 Hr./8Hr.) or Electronic Chart drive with various time settings.

For hydrostatic recording the recording need to be a real time recording/printing on the chart where the third party inspector can sign on the chart and avoid any chance of manipulation or duplication / correction.

Secondly the mechanical recorders can be used at any climatic condition and not like electronic recorders, which work only within the specified temperature/humidity and many other things that disturbs electronic signals.

As you said ITT Barton is presently available at very limited quantities with few stockist only. But similar recorders are available from some other manufacturers.

Pls feel free to contact me, if I can be of any further assistance.

I you absolutely need paper chart recorder, take a look at Yokogawa, they also have paperless.

But a data logger or portable data acquisition would be a better and more modern solution. These would enable error calculation, statistics, etc right off a PDA.

If you are looking for Battery Powered ChartRecorders, check out http://www.microdaq.com They have a large selection available from Dickson and Supco. Contact them directly, if you need assistance.

Try Foxboro (Invensys). We have a larger pressure test facility. We use a Foxboro electronic digital & circular recorder with an Ashcroft Pressure Transducer.

I have had some success recording data directly into Excel and creating a "real time" chart on screne. The limitations I have encountered are primarily related to sampling rate (I usually feed over an RS-232 link, using digital multimeters as a source). There are more elegant solutions available commercially from a variety of sources. I have also had limited results using the same system with my PDA. The beauty of this approach is that the acquisition can be customized for each application, adding alarms, etc. One has a permanent record of the data collected as well, in a form that can be analyzed and reformatted at will. PDA's and laptops are, of course, battery-powered. Send me a message if you would like more details about my approach- this is a non-commercial solution that has helped me overcome my financial limitations...

Try from Sigma India. They are great recorders and work on batteries.

One of my friends in Midland, Tx is using them and finds the unit good.

Teltherm Instruments www.teltherm.co.nz have a Portable Hydrostatic Pressure Recorder http://www.teltherm.co.nz/products/product.asp?sku=Hydrostatic_Test_Recorder&type=range that will do what you require.

This one has a fast sampling rate, 50 samples/second/channel, in addition to its standard chart recorder rates. Don't know if that's of interest in hydrostatic testing or not.

I'm not aware of a battery powered unit, but these types of boxes consume about 20watts, so running them from a charged UPS works well for a day in the field. I saw that there was a 24Vdc version, but where's the battery pack for 24Vdc?

The Teltherm unit uses the honeywell DR4500 Truline Circular chart recorder as most people need a print-out there and then after a test is completed, this is also available with an output that can then be connected to a computer for datalogging if required. This unit is designed for onsite/ outdoors applications as well.
