03/13/2008 12:35 AM

Hi all,

What are the different between Supply chain management, Just in Time, 6 Sigma, Total Quality Management, Pull System, and Push System? what are they?

Thanks,

If you juxtapose those terms which are similar, we may help you to distinguish between them.
A blanket question of disparate terms merely smacks of homework.
Tell us what you know... and we'll help straighten it out.

Just In Time is an upgrade from Just Too Late which is standard purchasing department pracrice when they are trying to save money.

Not much differences between these actually, as all are abused by incompetent short term focused managers to screw up otherwise motivated workers and capable processes.

These are all called "programs du jour." They get a lot of buzz for a few months til the next one comes around.

Push system is how manufacturing used to work- We make it you take it. Mc donalds.GM with 100's of days of finished vehicles on their dealers lots.

Pull system is I take it now you make it. also called KANBAN. Wendy's or walmart- replenishment upon demand.

Just in time is a means of avoiding inventory ideally suited for a world in which no natural or manmade disasters ever happen and the sales forecasts are perfectly calibrated to actual customer demand.

6 sigma and total quality management are the new titles of statistical process abuse inflicted on the working class by the monied class through the Green- and Black-belts of statistical perfidy. They make it possible for the guys wearing cuff links to use the "Q- word" without feeling yucky or having to do any real math (or thinking).
