HI FRND

EVERY COMPANY LIKE ARAMCO/SHELL HAS GOT ITS STANDARD DIMENSIONS FOR

FOR THERMOWELL , EG 4.5" FOR 7.0" LINE ( 4.5" IS THE IMMERSION DEPTH )

JUST TO MAKE SURE FREQUENCY RATIO IS LESS THAN 0.75( Fw/Fn) SO THAT

VELOCITY OF THE FLUID HITTING THE WELL WILL NOT DAMAGE IT

I SUGGEST YOU TO TAKE STANDARD DRAWING FROM SHELL

OR CAN MAIL U STANARD DIMENSIONS AS PER ARAMCO STANDARDS

REGARDS

JOSE JOHN

HAPPY EASTER

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply. My questions is that (Fw/Fn) will depend on not only the thermowell dimension but alos the process conditions so the SHELL or any other standard can not guarentee the Fw/Fn ratio less that 0,75 just because of particular dimensions of thermowell.

There are cases where Shell standard twells needs the collar for extra strenth..

Also, Can you please send me the ARAMCO standard you are talking about?

Many thanks!

Hello Different stroks,

If I under stand your Question you want to know what a "standard shell thermalwell"

is and when you use them?

Tipical thermalwells are used to protect the temp prob from the process or pressuer or chemicals, also to allow maintaince of the probe with out compromising the system.

As to the type of wells the size and material is depend upon what your process is.

I have attached a PDF from OMEGA.COM on there thermowells that may help.

I have found OMEGA to have a wealth of info on there site.

Shell standard thermowell was developed due to problems with having installed a thermowell cover flange without a thermowell installed. With the new design a part of the thermowell ( normally SS material) can be positively seen if one looks at the thermowell cover flange.

The new design uses a standard lap joint flange instead of the earlier thermowell cover flange. The new thermowell now has a female thread to receive the instrument element (previously the instrument element threads to the cover flange) and is fabricated with a protrusion sticking out but slightly below the lap joint flange thickness.
