A Heartbreaking Reminder of Unintentional Consequences

Let it serve us all as a reminder, that as engineers, our primary concern should always be the safety of the people who use the products we design.

That is just so sad. Probably could have been prevented with a $.49 piece of plastic. But you just never know, how about the woman that got hit in the face by a flying Manta Ray, and died? What can you plan for. There are some things that you would never think of in a million years, that happen. You live and learn.

Ya' know we survived our childhood and when I see all that kid's aren't allowed to do today Wonder how? But wow! did we have fun being risky (:

Motorcycles without helmets, diving from bridges, fishing from R/R trestles, drinking coffee, planes, trains and automobiles, lawn darts!

'the woman that got hit in the face by a flying Manta Ray' Manta rays don't fly!

Tell her that. She took one to the face. Read the news. She actually took a huge manta ray in the face, and died. Who could have planned on that happening. The topic is, what can happen if we don't plan ahead. There's just some things you can't ever even think about, that can happen.

Yes I agree we can never order our steps to the extent we are invulnerable. And we often misunderstand the basic definition of the word accident. A fluke by any other name, I've seen a manta ray come out of the water about 6" out of curiousity I suppose and air current could provide lift and wow think of the terror the manta ray may have experienced too.
