SHORT BIO & SUCCESS STORY:Growth, success, and accomplishment all describe the outcome of a journey once traveled by an ambitious, spunky male who made Ohio a new home. A then mechanic and heavy equipment repairman, who would have known that this young man would eventually become the threshold of a leading engineering and manufacturing operation!
Fred Wolbert at nineteen eventually took on the responsibility of building a custom machine for pressing pins in tracks of bulldozers, which the very operation that employed him was unable to build. The choice to take on building a machine under his belt led to the latter years and current day operation of Savage Engineering and Sales, Inc., located in Garfield Heights, OH.
The quick clips and short exert of his story seems simple. Long hauls and gambles of success have present day sales at approximately 1-5 million dollars; a stretch for a young traveler whom began his journey to Ohio with only fifty-dollars in pocket.
German born, Fred married on leave only three years after his arrival to the Buckeye State. Soon after the war, he and his wife gave birth to a beautiful young daughter, two sons, then again, one more baby girl.
Fred's sons both help in daily business operation. While Fred holds the forte as company President, Dan's sales skills shine through as Vice President of the hydraulic press industry. David takes on the perks of Accounting.
CLIENT/CUSTOMER RELATIONS:While intertwining personal interest with advanced technology, Fred has led a business through several major economic recessions over the last forty-three years. Client repertoire focus has included aerospace, defense, governmental, automotive, medical and transportation. These only name a few fields of applications for Savage Hydraulic Presses. Fred traveled from Pennsylvania and has helped make Ohio not only a home, but an industrial success. He was someone that found love, business and opportunity. A Military Verteran, Fred has overcome much 'more than the norm'. Self confidence has always been strong, well beyond military experience. 'Actions have spoken louder than words'. Fred has the inherent ability to think logically to overcome obstacles.
Clientele consists of national and international manufacturing companies. The client list reads like a Who's Who of Successful Manufacturing Companies such as:
· Boeing Aerospace ● Allied Signal ● Smithand Wesson· Ford Motor Co. ● FMC Corp. ● Reliance Electric · Pfizer Hospital Group ● Garret Turbine Engines ● Marathon Oil Co
· Pratt & Whittney Aircraft ● Siemans Medical Systems ● Maytag Corp. ● Eastman Kodak ● Saturn Corp.
Fred has repeatedly found better ways to meet his customers' needs and exceed their expectations.
"If it was easy, someone else would be doing it."
This basic sort of logic helps define the personality of his "never quit" attitude.
Fred has produced a winning industry in custom hydraulic presses, with a group of engineers, assemblymen, control designers, programmers, and machinists to do the job right. Each employee fulfills an obligation to contribute their part of a successful operation.
With a dedicated belief in his employees, he earns the respect of a leader. Press assemblers are trained in all aspects of machine building and as a result, they can start with drawings and completely fabricate, assemble, pipefit, wire and test a custom machine from start to finish. Their pride is reflected in the quality of their work.
Savage Engineering, inc. has been in operation for over 44yrs, thanks to Fred.
