Hopkinsons Test

While doing Hopkinsons test eventhough the 2 mc. r identical they will not get the same effiency.why? Also if a DC mc. is operated both as a mtr. & a generator the generator will have more efficiency.Why?

the two m/c floating condition , then two machines parallel switch closed
