Prolem with Text-editors[Word-pad & Word]

04/04/2008 10:00 PM

I have faced the problem many times after some time it starts to behave as "jumps" in typed text;does not type

"swuares"-like characters; Paste just goes without any character in file.

Really it cannot be explained in words.

Just shut-down the file, open it afresh, all is OK or some data like:

r op

Windng like characters.

*mixes up to other text as below:

-----------

Eample:

I pasted the text in a blank-space much above the text in which it was mixed up

" I need a presize 4.95 MHz crystal for building a OOK receiver. but I have with me a 5MHz and 4.915Mhz crystal. Is there any way to change the crystal frequency slightly so that i can achive the desired working frequency. "

----------------

See Bold-Itallic text please.

Once I close the file & re-open, it is OK again

I regulary update AV program & Scan.

Hi Haajee,

I have never seen this problem in word pad or Microsoft Word. What operating system do you have? If it is Vista, then there was a recent update file released (they call it a service pack, I call it a patch). I suggest you get Open Office, a free office package with spread sheet and the whole works (at www.openoffice.com). If you still have problems, I suggest re-installing your entire operating system from the start. Make sure you back up your files.

regards,

S

Had the same problem with a little Cad program. Found out that the cpu was getting too warm. When you reboot gives it time to cool. Try a bigger fan, more air vents or a good cleaning of the fan blades and fins.

  • Make sure your PC is clean and well ventilated.
  • Ensure you don't have hardware issues (bad fan / power supply)
  • Install and run CCleaner ( free software)
  • Run Disk Cleanup and Defrag.

NOTE:

  • Ulra Edit is the best text editor I've used
  • PFE "Program File Editor" is free but limited and unsupported

Thanks for your advise.

I have CCleaner but no links for " Ulra Edit " . I think it is Ultra Edit .

I have some more professional AV & Malware cleaners & regularly updating & Scanning my system.

Even then it may be the problem. I will re-ensure.

My work required me to work on many different computers each day, at different locations. Therefore, machine maintenance solutions just wouldn't do.

I developed a habit of placing about ten lines of blank space below the section that I was typing, immediately after starting the document. I found that when I did this, text could be copied and pasted without any deterioration. I also found another work around: If a very large block of text was migrated from another document, it would sometimes be pasted up in a strange mixture of it's native format, and the format of the document that I was creating. For this problem, I would place the cursor at the top left corner of the document and then scroll down through the document with the arrow down key. It cleaned it up.

Hope this helps.

I don't mean clean up the files, hard drive and the program. I mean get a out a dust cloth, tooth brush and a vaccum and clean off the fan, fins and CPU. Be gentle when removing the fan off the cpu to clean the blades and fins. A small layer of dust can reduce the cooling effect of the fans and fins by 50%. Be sure to have the unit disconnected from the wall (all sources) before you open the beast up!!

Will do it as you advised again. I clean regularly due to dusty environment.

Have a special heat-sink compound to apply every time.

Dear Sir I had been working on Power Devices, circuits & systems for quite a time & have learned a little about Thermal-Managements.

Thanks again to remind me !!!

You also might want to try re-partitioning your hard drive, reducing the size of your c: drive. I have had problems with the video refresh from the swap file when the c: drive is too large...

Hi ! cwarner7_11 !

Seems to be logical with the video refresh point of view as I have the same problem on all of my PCs & Laptop. I was thinking it is with the REFRESH-Rate of Monitors.

Lets have some more thinking on it.

Any how thanks for a new idea.

Can't we fix the size of Swap file. I have read some where?

I actually discovered the refresh rate thing by accident- by partitioning the 80 M disk to 40M for Windows, 40 M for Linux. The refresh problem with the screen went away immediately after partitioning (even before I finished installing Linux). I suspect it is not so much the size of the swap file but where Windows decides to park it on the hard disk. With a smaller hard disk partition, the file has to be closer to the front end of the partition, resulting in less time to find it. By the way- this was a clean install of XP on a new hard disk that was giving me problems. My laptop, also running XP, came with the hard disk already partitioned- I don't know if that was done by the manufacturer for a similar reason or not...Also, it may be that with more memory (I only run 512 M), the problem would not exist. My problem has been with XP- I don't have the problem with a similar hard drive running Windows 98 and the same memory.
