what is the importance of electromagnitism in the generation of power?

Technically, you can generate electricity without it; Photo Voltaic generation for instance does not involve magnetics, nor does chemical generation (batteries), static (rubbing) or piezoelectric (strain) generation. But all of the non-magnetic methods are severely limited in scope and will cost an incredible amount compared to methods using electromagnetism.

Electromagnetism is the only way of effectively converting motion, i.e. what is called a "prime mover" into transmittable electrical power.
