Glass Transfer

04/12/2008 3:41 AM

I want someone to tell me the most economical way to transfer the glass from one country to another country (we use the wooden boxes but it's more expensive and less economic) note that

1- We transfer in a container.

2- Every wood box take about 200 Pcs.

3- The glass dim vary from 20 cm to 40 cm wide and 200 cm length.

regards

Mahmoud

Something like reusable synthetic crates?

Wood crates are the most economical. Wood being a renewable resource that is relatively inexpensive. Other types of crating is available like steel racks for flat glass. The expense of these expensive crates would mean that you would need to have them returned to be of any economic saving to you. That expense of having them return is what makes wood usually the best alternative.

We receive flat glass both ways. Our float glass coming in on steel racks. These steel racks will some times fill our yard before the glass manufacturer will pick them up. That is a cost concern that you will have to consider.

I was referring a synthetic foam but could be organic based and conformed to the glass shape. May biodegrade fairly quickly.

Agree with other posters, but I wonder whether the possibility exists to "piggyback" your glass transfer (wooden) crates with another local manufacturer that is shipping another product to the same location, potentially allowing the joint use of the crates and a sharing of shipping costs.

wood will be the most economical.

Depending on the thickness of your glass, corrugated may work. In a perfect world the containers will be packed in a neat orderly fashion, and the containers will be moved from your dock to the truck to the port to the ship to the other port to the other truck to the other dock with the utmost care. -good luck with it. tell how well it works......
