Open and close transition star delta starter

1. what is the benefit using open and close transition starter ?

2. small motor have tagging 400V - star and 600V - delta , so what is the meaning of two type of Voltage?

close transition ensures that transition from star to delta smooth and avoids a situation as in open transition when motor is disconnected and then full voltage comes on.If the incoming voltage is in Phase with Back Emf motor can be subjected to high voltage stresses and stator winding can be damaged if not properly secured.

stator can be connected either in star or delta .if in star 400 V and in Delta 600V
