Tools used: trowel, vibrator, shovel, muscles, wheelbarrow, crane, concrete pump, impact hammer, thermometer, compression testing machine, X-ray and probably a whole lot more.

Terms used: footing, pedestal, slab, wall, column, beam, purlin, girder, thin shell, composite design, 28 day strength, slump, tensile strength, reinforcement, balanced reinforcement, compression, density, unit weight, shear, bending moment, reaction, torsion, rigidity, cracking, ultimate strength, working strength, factored loads, service loads, aggregate, admixture, deformed bar, plain bar, pre-stressing, pretensioning and probably a whole lot more.

Do you really expect CR4 to give you a complete course in concrete design, construction and inspection in one short blurb? Why don't you check the internet? If you don't know how to find something in the internet, just ask and we will be pleased to respond.

Add to that some more common terms like Ready-mix, Mix on-site, Batch plant, Tremie, Screed, jitterbug, Schmidt hammer, rebar, chute, forms, slipforms, saw cut, plain concrete, reinforced concrete, workability, cement content, water content, water-cement ratio, sack per cubic yard, admixtures, accelerant, retardant, water reducing agent, plasticizer, pozzolans, Calcium Chloride, slag, silica fume, fly ash, flexural reinforcement, shear ties, beams, one-way slabs, two-way slabs, piles, caissons, columns, grade beams, retaining walls, tilt-up construction, cast in place, precast, prestressed, post-tensioned, ties, hooks, seismic hooks, spiral ties, welded wire fabric, stirrups, tendons, plain reinforcement, deformed reinforcement, aggregate, durability, air-entrainment, contraction joints, construction joints, expansion joints, isolation joint, curing time, nominal strength, design strength, yield strength, compressive strength, high-early strength, low-heat, sulfate resistant, harsh mix, Calcium silicates, Calcium Aluminosilicates, bonding, development length, effective depth, heat of hydration, chloride and sulfate, creep, shrinkage, curing, flexural strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, ACI 318, IBC, etc.

Cranes aren't all that common, except in tiltup, reinforcing steel deliveries and high rise work. Ready mix trucks and concrete pump very common. Xray testing is actually to inspect the reinforcing steel in special circumstances where reinforced concrete already exists and as such is not all that common either. I would suggest going to the American Concrete Institute and purchasing some manuals for more information, or just for a practical idea of concrete work and materials behavior considerations for construction get a copy of the ICBO Concrete Manual it is a pretty good summary without getting into the engineering aspaects too deeply.
