Adhesive for Aluminum+CRNGO Steel

07/05/2006 9:04 AM

Anonymous Coward writes:
Can anybody send me details for the type of adhesive that can be used for fixing of aluminum with CRNGO steel? These are the two components weighing about 150gms each.
After fixing it must withstand 6 feet of drop test.

I don't want to use epoxy based.
I can't use anaerobic due to to much clearance in between.
I am not finding satisfactory results with cynoacrylic.

What else can I do?

Alum-Stain-Bond with Urethane

07/05/2006 11:19 PM

I would suggest using Urethane- the type used for bonding auto windshields- in caulking tube. I have used this to bond many things for years- metals included and have never had it fail. It runs about 5.00-14.00 a tube. Be advised-once opened it will setup in tube within a short while if left out to room temp's. I Stick a tightfit rod or bolt in the opening and put in a freezer- it will last years when airtight & frozen- and will not harm the quality. Be sure to clean as per the instructions and you should not have any problems-as coming undone.

silicone

Silicone cement works very well also. You may need to bake it if your production time is short. The type that smells like vinigar is the strongest, but I don't know how it comparez to urethane.
