Contaminated Kerosene

04/15/2008 8:53 AM

How do I physically identify a contaminated Kerosene product? Please note that cases of Kerosene contamination had happened several times in the recent past resulting in dealth and severe burnts of unsuspecting victims. A solution here may put a stop to this danger.

First, you need a "standard", a known good sample of the solvent. Then you need to have someone (possibly a university, or a friend, or an analytical testing service) run either a GPC or an Infrared or FTIR scan of the suspect sample and the standard, and overlays of the good vs. the suspect will tell you immediately if the new sample is contaminated.

Just test for the "Flash Point" temperature. I don't recall what the instrument looks like, but it seemed easy to use.
