Worldwide Lube Oil Blending Business

04/25/2008 2:32 AM

I am looking for information on the worldwide lube oil blending business

I have an instrument that uses x-ray fluorescence to determine the elemental composition of materials and liquids. The instrument is intended for field and factory use (not lab-based). The physics are complex but the instrument translates the results into language suited for the person who needs the answers to make decisions - like control a process, comply to a spec, etc.

I am investigating its application to the lube oil blending business. I know very little about this business so just about any information helps me. Ideally information on the size of the market, how many facilities around the world, major players, quality control practices, +++

I appreciate any information or leads you can provide.

Best chances in Europe since there are many internationals and local companies. Major players ExxonMobil, BP (Castrol) , Shell, TotalFinaElf, Agip, Fuchs, Lukoil, Selenia. Contact for example Global Lubricants Technology Centre in Pangbourne, UK.

All the best.

Would your x-ray fliorescence instrument replace the spectografy used for oil analisys or could it be used to determine the amount of iron, aluminum, chromium silicium, etc particles present in the used lubricant of an diesel engine or of a power shift transmission? All the mining and construction industry needs to control the usefull life of major mechanical components of their machinery in order to minimize maintenance costs and downtime of very expensive machines through lubricant oil analisys.Today thr major equipment manufacturer stablished lubricant oil analisys labs using spectrografy by plasma to control metalic contaminants in the oil and prevent huge damage to these components. They are charging heavily these oil analisys and making a very good money with it.

Don`t forget me when the business goes prosperous.

The instruments we make can detect the elements you mention. They are currently being used in the field for the analysis of wear metals in oil. You can see our products at www.innovxsys.com. If you would like to discuss your application further, please send me an email (kbrennan@innovxsys.com) and I can connect you with applications people in your area.

My interest is understanding the production of Lube Oils. Specifically the blending process. I appreciate any information of leads you can provide.

Best Regards,

Kevin Brennan

We are dedicated to reliability in heavy industry, and fast lubricant analysis is an are where we want to expand. We already have a customer base with interes in an equipment like the one you describe. There are others though, like Maersk Fluid Technology with element analyzer like yours.

Quote from Maersk

The SEA-Mate(tm) Analyzer is a rugged system that allows the user to perform a fast and simple fluid analysis on-board/-site in less than 10 minutes per sample.
Together with Innov-X Systems, we have over the past two years developed this XRF fluid analyzer for on-board/-site use for the following applications:

I`m very interested in this business, since all my profissional life was dedicated to maintenance of heavy mining equipment.I`m a consulting mechanical engineer and I live in Brazil.

Would you, please, send detail informations about the instrument itself, how it works, the particles size and amount standards for monitoring wearing conditions of the major mechanical components, and the cost involved in order I be able to study the viability of a partnership.

Please, fill free to expose your thougths about this business. My private email is

Thank you for your comments.

I work at Innov-X. I am investigating non-marine markets for our fuel and oil analysis products. As you are aware, having the ability to get results real time in the field is of significant value for many applications. We can put XRF analysis right at the users facility in either a batch process or integrated into a production line.

Please send me an email if you like to discuss your applications with Innov-X? I can connect you with one of our applications people.

Kevin Brennan
