There have been 4 views without comment, so far. I think this is because there is no such book as you have described. One of the best EE books I have ever encountered (after I completed my BSEE degree) was written by two guys that were not EE's. The title escapes me at the moment because the book is on loan. Check the college bookstore or library near you and read the preface.

For testing, the best test questions are in the study guide for a P.E. license test.

When I was a youngster of about 12 I "borrowed" from my grandfather a 1930 vintage of the "American Electricians Handbook", read it from cover to cover, then "borrowed" my fathers version from the 50s (I come from a family of people in the trade you might say). Since then I have purchased several more up to date copies of the reference book. I recommend it highly.

I recommend electrical engineering 101 by Ashby it taught me the basics, plus a bunch of other career stuff I use all the time. In even teaches how to solder! On top of that unlike most texts it is easy and fun to read as well
