Hi,
Can any one help? I am looking for long conservation procedures for economisers, superheaters, boilers and turbo-generators.

Long Conservation of equipment

08/04/2006 5:29 AM

Can you please elaborate as to whether you plan to mothball the equipment for long term storage or you are looking at ways to increase the service life the equipment? If you plan to store the equipment for longterm and preserve the equipment from corrosion etc., then the best way is to wrap them in VCI coated paper and store them. Alternately, you can store them in crates and ensure you drop a few pill of VCIs. VCIs are vapour phase corroison inhibitors and they are best suited for storing equipment for long term when they are not in use. VCIs release corrosion inhibiotr vapours and form a fine quote on the equipment and prevent oxidation and electron transfer corrosion.

Boiler long term storage

08/04/2006 7:05 AM

Boilers, superheaters and economisers should be flushed out with inhibitors at least every 12 months. Are your turbines steam or gas/oil and what size? On larger gas/oil units (125MW up)the bearings will collapse unless supported when not rotating with no lub oil pressure. What lentgh of time?

I do agree with peterd. However, boiler pressure parts shall be fully and properly flushed to get rid of all debris, then filled with inhibitors, wrapping, packing etc. This of course if you are planning to moth ball the operation. Should you decide to increase the life expectancy of theses parts, is a totally different ball game. Let me know what is it that you want by being more specific. As for the turbine, it depends if it is a steam or combustion turbine. I any case be much more specific to enable help you! Ciao
