Sump Pit Designs

please guide me for the sump pit design .

I am working as a MEP engineer in U.A.E. but still not sure in sump-pit design.

guide in.

1. which flows are considering while designing sump-pit size?

2. flow through sprinklers and bibtaps at basement floors, duration of these flows.

3. Which cases are considering while designing sump-pit size?like 30 minutes flow by sprinklers when fire/ exposions take place., thickness of water level on floor, etc.

4. sump pump size and designining, I.E. GPM and head of pump.

please suggest ur designing concepts.

A sump pit is used for many applications. I have one here where I work that catches the waste water from a flat glass washer.

We all would have to have a better idea of the application to give you any guidance.

I am not sure as to your statement about sprinklers. If you are talking about fire sprinklers then forget about that. If by chance you have a fire. Upon arrival most fire departments cut the electrical power to the building.

Tells us what it is that you are designing. MEP is acronym for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumping. First, chose one of these three as the design target of the application. Apparently it is plumbing. Next specify the application, perhaps fire protection.

This sump pit, may I refer to this volume as "wet-well"? Perhaps it's volume is static meaning that when the nozzles open during the fire event, the "well" volume is depleted by pump suction but not before the fire is abated by pump discharge through nozzles on discharge line for time sufficient to queltch fire.

Now, we must ask how many nozzles are you planning to service and at what pressure and for how many minutes?

Please share your thoughts so that we may offer more guidance.

your question is about sum pit in basement car parking where it is protected by fire fighting sprinkler heads, in same time there are drainage pipe discharge to the consider sum pit, if this is the Case then you can continue with me.

As first answer, do not wary about sprinklers discharge,because the submersible pups are not connected with emergency panel, while all electrical panel will be disconnected by fire men.

secondly you should have two pumps one duty and the second is assist pump ( not stand by) upon the a certain level of wast water first pump should start if water level increased then assist pump will start,

Thirdly pump should be sized to avoid running more than 14 times/ hour.now according to drainage+ rain water if any ramp is near by max discharge the pump has to sized, but the discharge pipe must consider the flow rate of both pumps running and pressure drop as well for both pumps.
