Transformers for Sale

05/21/2008 7:31 AM

Hi Fellow Engineers,

For those of you who do not know yet, I have bought my equipment and is in the process of transporting it all to South Africa, where I will set up my first Foundry to remelt whatever I can find and sell.

I have found that the transport costs, (apart from the time it takes - I started in January and I am not done yet) is truly huge. I bought a set of equipment for US$ 350,000 and the transport is now in excess of US$ 100,000.

The next interesting fact is that we are running a 50Hz electrical grid in contrast to the US 60Hz. So the equipment I bought have to be modified to run properly here. The transformers however cannot be converted so easily and I have to buy special transformers to make my plant work.

That started me thinking, why not leave the two transformers in the US, in fact try to sell it to someone that can use it for whatever purpose and save some transport time and cost. I attach the spec the only way I know. I can be contacted on e-mail for more info. My initial idea was to break it apart and sell the components as scrap (i.e. it contains about 3,000kg of copper) - just an idea .....

My e-mail address: tc@envirosteel.com

Anyone interested in purchasing this from me? I will accept any reasonable offer.

TC

Depending on the age of te transformer breaking it open will most likey expose you to several high level cancer causing materails. Is it worth you life to sell a few lbs of cooper?

Set a price I am sure someone will work with you on it.

I am aware of the materials inside the transformer, did not say it will be easy. Thanks for the concern though, it is possible that I might have incited someone to go for a very hazardous bargain by not disclosing that.

OK, here is the low down. It will cost me approximately US$ 10,000 each to transport them from New York to my plant. I can then make probably about US$ 20,000 each in recycling the metals (I have the people and facilities to do that). So, my profit would be US$ 20,000 total, and that would be a reasonable offer from a US citizen.

Regards,

TC
