Hello,

I used 539.7 for a design project back in March. I just checked for a new update, and this is the most recent. You can find CEPCI in the back of the Chemical Engineering Journal.

regards,

David

Due to inflation, the purchase cost of processing equipment is not static. Reading such costs from charts, graphs, or equations generally only apply to a give point in time.

An estimate of the purchase cost at a later date is obtained by mulitplying the cost from an earlier date by the ratio of a cost index (i).

Cost(n) = Cost(o)*(in/io)

The CEPCI is just one of many different indices used to estimate cost. The base line CEPCI is commonly taken at 100 and corresponds to the year 1958.

To use the CEPCI or any index, one needs a cost equation for a given piece of equipment. For example to do a cost analysis on a heat exchanger the equation is

cost= x * (area)^y

where x = the cost index ratio and other factors

y = 0.69 for most shell and tube heat exchangers

A complete list of most common process equipment and their cost estimate relations can be found in Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook.

I hope this helps.

regards.

David

Hello,

I don't have an acess to a copy of recent Chemical Enigneering Journal at the moment. Could anyone please provide me a copy of the recent CEPCI index released in 2008?

Thanks...
