My problem is:
I live in Marina City, a high-rise condo building, in downtown Chicago. It's in a wonderful location with a view of Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, and downtown Chicago.
However, when a fire truck or ambulance passes by on one of the streets down below, "in the canyon" created by the surrounding buildings, the sound comes right into our condo doorways (leading to the balconies) with a volume only slightly less than being on the street right next to them.
I'm looking for an inexpensive solution.
The balconies are made of concrete.
I believe that the sound is reflected off of the underside of the balcony(ies) above ours, and that reflected sound is directed into the doorway. Of couse, when the doors are closed, the sound is diminished drastically, since the windows and doors are of commercial quality.
My question is: Would it be helpful to adhere some exterior sound insulating panels to the underside of the balcony above ours?
We are on the 52nd floor. The building has 62 floors.
I attempted to attach a photo to this question. If it doesn't make it, please go to Google images, and search for "Chicago Marina City" to see many photos!
