Heating and cooling aluminium plastic moulding tool.

06/20/2008 8:47 AM

I need to heat an aluminium plastic moulding tool to 220 degrees C ( in a series of temperature ramps) and cool it to 60 degrees C as fast as possible. The tools dimensions are 1500mm x 1500mm x 230mm

What would be the best heating/cooling medium. Oil or steam + water?

What long term effect does steam have on aluminium?

a- heating steam

b- cooling water

c- fatigue due to temperature generated stresses within the wall thus risk of craks

The faster you cahnge the higher the stresses and the sooner the fatigue will appear.

It sounds like you are trying to use heat/cool technology. Both superheated water and steam are being used today.
