Full-Load Motor Amperage vs. Unloaded

06/24/2008 12:36 PM

If I have a full load amperage on the nametag of the motor is there a rule of thumb what it would be running with no load? I have a single phase motor with a full load amperage of 8 amps. What would be the reading for a high and low with no load.

No way to know for sure, it can range from 20 - 40% of FLA depending on the motor design. Uncouple the motor and test it, that is the best way to be sure.
