ERW V/S Seamless SS Pipes in Sanitary Applications

I don't see significant technical differences on using either seamless or ERW pipe for this service.

If both pipe types comply with similar rules and manufacturing standards, it's only a question of price and availability.

Any protruding weld-flash might be enough to retain bits of otherwise moving debris; may be a chronic blockage issue.

Contamination by the flash itself, should the flash dislodge, as well as contamination by harboring contaminants from prior flows.

I see this as a Sanitary concern more than blockage.

However, properly ordered to an agency standard such as ASTM A 270, Seamless and welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing will allow you to specify Internal diameter finish as well as OD finish or both. See Section 13, surface finishes. It goes all the way up through various ground finishes (specified by grit size) to Electropolished Finish.

Otherwise, as Kwetz has stated, no problem.

This however is taken into account by the manufacturers who are making it for Sanitary applications & claiming it to be hygeinically safe. Still if it is a concern of Price only then which process do you feel should be costlier... Or in other words if a process is costlier than other what is the significance of going for costlier one when there is a cheaper option available. Also I doubt the Seamless process to have inuniformity in terms of Wall thickness throughout the length & even inner grains of the pipe. Pass your comments...

Dont make it too complicated. both Seamless SS Pipes and ERW SS Pipes properly finished are suitable for such sanitary./ hygeneic uses per ASTM A 270. Buy either one based on the ability to /hold move whatever you need to (ie capacity), with price being the next determining factor.
