British piping spec

07/09/2008 10:21 PM

Anyone familiar with a British spec for seamless pipe/tube BS3602-1 HFS 410 Cat 2 ?

This appears to be superceded by BS EN10216-2. Is the equivalent ASTM spec A-106B and UNS# of K03006?

Hi, roadapple,

BS 3602-1 last edition was issued in 1987 and now it's withdrawn ans superseded by EN 10216-1 (Seamless steel tube for pressure purposes. Part 1: Non alloy steel tubes with specified room temperature properties) and EN 10216-2 (Seamless steel tube for pressure purposes. Part 2: Non alloy and alloy steel tubes with specified elevated temperature properties )

Regarding equivalence, BS 3602-1:1987 allowed seamless and ERW/induction welded tubes. ASTM A 106 and both mentioned EN standards are just for seamless pipes.(A106 is for high temperature service too)

Furthermore, according to the quality, tensile strength equivalent to that you mention are ASTM A 106B, P265TR1/2 according to EN 10216-1 and P265GH according to EN10216-2.

So you must use P265GH to comply with all requirements. A106B is quite similar but there is a usual difference between US and EN material standards: First don't use to specify notch toughness requirements because they use to do it in the design Code while EN use to do it in the material standard.

Kind regards

I'm interest in American codes and standards, and in many cases I faced with problems like finding the equivalent to certain American material whatever in ASTM or ASME. And after a lot of deep trials and past experience to find the equivalent, I discovered that there is nothing called "equivalent" for a material related to certain code with another material related to another code.
