Coriolis Flowmeter

07/15/2008 6:59 AM

Hello everyone!

I want to use coriolis mass flowmeter for HSD (liquid fuel) measurement. Can anyone suggest that what are the considerations to be taken for using this flowmeter? Does the vaccum pressure at the pump inlet may cause any disturbance on the reading of flowmeter which is to be installed just before the pump inlet. what is the minimum straight run required to avoid vacuum affect?

Hi ,

a)While selecting mass flow meter consider the following

1 Range of Flow rate and Pressure loss

2 flow meter performance vs flow rate

3 design pressure temperature rating

b ) cant comment on the suction side as most of our installations are on the discharge side

c) mass flow meter are not affected by flow pattern disturbance(velocity n swirl)

but some models like bent type do get affected (follow manufactuers recmnd)

Regards

Jose John

I would not place the meter just prior to the pump but downstream of the pump. the other considerations is that they have 20 :1 turndown in flow. They should also be installed where they stay liquid full such as in a verticle flow line that the flow is up or in a horizontal line that is a low point in the system. There are some that will tell you if there is a mix of air and liquid but then the accuracy really falls off... The last is determined by the size of the meter and how it needs to be mounted from the space and supporting requirements of the meter.
