Toilet soap bar with/without glycerin

07/18/2008 4:11 PM

I need comments, information and technical-scientific references related to toilet soap bars made with soap noodles without glycerol extraction after the saponification step. The noodles are made from either fat/oil or 100% vegetable oils and the focus is in the following properties:

ItemDescription[ # ][ * ]
1exudation' – migration of water/moisture on the bars' surface- 3from - 1 to 0
2efflorescence – crystal formation on the bars' surface-10
3soap bar texture0+ 2
4lathering – amount and stability- 1+ 1
5rinsing from skin- 1+ 2
6'mush' and 'jelly'- 20
7cracking- 20
8moisturize skin benefit+ 1+ 2

The scale [from -3 to +3] shows the range between the present [#] and the desired condition [*] after rework. How to minimize the negative aspects of glycerol left in the noodle by raw materials and process compromise?

Hello ldrmoraes,

I would be patient because this type of question is pretty specific! There maybe only a few people here who know this kind of stuff!

Anyway, I hope you find your answer and welcome to CR4

As a home soap-maker for many years, I have found that the blend of the oils used will determine the soap's properties.

Basically, I use palm oil, olive oil, and coconut oils.

And in smaller quantities, almond and castor oils.

Why a blend? If you where to use only olive oil you would end up with a very soft soap, that you could easily squish through your hand. If you use only palm oil, the bar would be as hard as a rock.

I am not at home now and far from my library. But I do remember my soap bible:

http://www.amazon.com/Soapmakers-Companion-Comprehensive-Techniques-Know-How/dp/0882669656/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216470888&sr=8-2

A wealth of information, and references to more technical works.
