It would be like trying to download an AB processor using Mitsi GX Developer...Incompatible

So if the program on the hardwar is Step 7 then you require Step 7 software to read it.

Dear Gilbert Sampa, I assume you have Step7 ver 5.4 on your laptop and your PLC's were programmed using Step 7 ver 4.

I think (I could be wrong!!) Bolton Alan misread this to mean that you had Step 5 and you were trying to read a Step 7 program - if this is the case then Bolton Alan is 100% correct. You can convert from Step 5 to Step 7 so you are not completely without a solution (althought this conversions depends somewhat on how the program was written in the first place)

However if you have step 7 ver 5.4 then you should be able to load the Step 7 ver 4.0 program and work from there. You probably could not load the ver 5.4 program using Step 7 ver 4.0.

Best way to find out is to try and load it.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

Dear Gilbert Sampa,

Ok, I understood that you had version 5.4 on your PC, sorry about that. To be absolutely sure I would ask the Siemens rep before purchasing but I would be shocked if it was not backward compatible.

Kind Regards

Yes you can upload the program from the plc to your laptop using step7 v5.4 - your laptop version is later than whats in the plc so all is ok
