Hi...the india power sector is divided in following parts:

  1. Manufacturing...is inadequate to meet capacity requirements as the forecast is huge. Imports can supplement to a large extent.
  2. Generation...this is fairly efficient with several agencies viz NTPC etc showing very high PLF and comparing better than world average.
  3. Distribution....this is a holy mess! The sooner it is sorted the better as this tends to get murkier day by day. We may know some outcome today after the vote on the Nuclear deal. But, coming elections you can bet some political outfits would again promise free power to all & sundry. The state governments are a disaster as far as efficient distribution is concerned. This way realisation gets bogged and there is no money left for development and modernisation of existing facilities.
  4. Hydro potential is currently equal to countrys present installed capacity. Large players should be encoraged to invest and gestation period for project construction should be brought down.
  5. Renewal energy sources are abundant especially solar. Should be used in remote areas but funding remains a bottle neck.
