Are these the horns that direct the "blow off" air into the bags? If it is, I would stick with the horns that are already in your dust collector. The original manufacturer of the dust collector likely had a properly working blow off arrangement.

I have cases in my plant where the exact horns are no longer available. In this case I just try to match up a new horn dimensionally as much as possible. I have not had any bag cleaning problems due to this, and have dealt with BHA for years.

Do you have a bag cleaning issue you are trying to resolve or have your horns (beep beep) fallen apart as they do from the repeated shocks?

hey Dave,

there are no horns now,

there is a bag shaker mechanism that isn't sufficient for the job, and would have to be modified (new gearbox, possibly a larger motor, and new linkage). I was looking at alternatives to modifying the shaker, and was wondering how well acoustic horns do the job of bag cleaning

the bag house itself also needs to be modified, so making alterations to install the horns is no big deal

The pulsed blow off we use in this plant in many dust collectors (bag and cannister type) works well for our applications. I have no direct experience with bag shakers to compare it to. Depending on the application (cloth to air ratio, particle stickiness, particle size, etc.) we get anywhere from 2 months to 2 years out of our filter media.

When the blow off air hits, the vacuum level of the collected air steam fluctuates. If your production system would be adversely affected by this, there may be ways around it. It's easiest to handle if you know up front.

thanks dave,

I think the system you have in place is a pulse jet system, I am also looking into that option but the retrofit seems to be a little more extensive than we're interested in at the moment.

The option I was looking at was large horns that generate low frequency sound waves, they use a low fundamental frequency 45hz ish at around 150 db to vibrate the bags ... any experience with that system?

Yes, my dust collectors are pulse jet type, sorry. The acoustic wave type sounds cool though. Do you have to stop the air flow to get the dust to release and fall with this type? Now, I'm curious if this works.
