Vibration Monitoring System

07/22/2008 3:42 AM

Dear Frnds

We Have a Reciprocating compressor And Motor As driver being Rated for 4389 Nm3/hr and outelt conditions is 39 kg/cm2 A / Temp of 136 Deg c,

Application is "3 Stage Make up H2 Compressor"

I would like to Know wheteher seperate VMS system is required for the application Or can I take directly I/O (4-20 ma & Contacts) to DCS/ESD.

Package vendor didnt provide any Info regarding VMS in the BID doc.

Also Is there any Regulations which determines Wheteher to Consider VMS on case basis.

Regards

Jose John

If it is being purchased to API 618, which a makeup H2 compressor probably is, then vibration monitoring is required. But you can do it either way, through a vibration monitoring system, or by using vibration transmitters and going directly to the DCS.

Hi,
There is a Hydrogen compressor where I work, it has a Bently Nevada VMS that is located in the "dog house" on the compressor floor with only the alarms tied to DCS.It also has common trouble alarms tied in to the local annunciator.Thank you

Dear Jose,

"API670 Machinery Protection System" is the best reference for this case.

You must be clear what you want: protect the equipment to avoid/prevent failures or monitor it for analysis and predict failures.
