85 HDTV Vehicles will be put into use

07/25/2008 6:01 AM

Reporters from ouir state tv station show us the picture of 58 vehicles came from 6 europe countries arrived in Tianjin port this morming and dispetched soon to the match sites in Beijing, Hongkong ,Tianjin and Qingtao etc. to serve for this 29th Olympic games hold in China.

there are 20 vehicles in china and still need abouvt 10 vehicles for this live relay system. wow, there are only 140 such HDTV vehicles in the world I was told. this committee seems spend too much for this games.

The picture may be very good, but I can see only on our SDTV set.

I wnt to know how many countries in the world can see the HDTV picture without topset?

I've never seen these before. Do they intend to stack them to make one huge display?

cn, did you take these pictures? Do you live or work near the Games?

Perhaps I will get to see these displays while watching the Games on TV. If possible, I'd like to see how they are deployed.

HDTV is available here, for an extra charge, from cable and satellite providers. I don't have a HDTV, as I don't watch much TV. Any games I wish to see in HDTV, I go to the local pub.

Bricktop, I believe that these are in fact the on location Engineering and production uplinks vehicles for the various countries' broadcast media, not components of a big giant display.

cnpower, all of the broadcasters (free channels) here in Northern OHIO USA broadcast in HD; I'll bet 20-25% of households can receive HD currently.

Many of the cable channels, but not all (must pay to watch) are HDTV. Especially sports.

You wouldn't believe the amount of electricity that the new generation of TV's that are HDTV compatible consume!

Ohhh, boy, <scratching head whilst orange powder collects on floor >. I get it now, I'm just thick, (as a brick).

I didn't realise how much current they eat! Good, another reason not purchase one.

Chart Key

Model: The HDTV model name and manufacturer with link to review. Default sort is TV technology type arranged in ascending order of review date.

HDTV type: Flat-panel LCD, plasma, or rear-projection (RPTV). CRT models were excluded from this comparison because we haven't tested any recently.

Screen size: In inches diagonal. All TVs on this list are wide-screen 16:9 models.

Watts: Standby: Measured using the default, out of the box settings when the TV is in standby mode; e.g. with power turned off but the TV plugged in. Note: According to Extech, the manufacturer of the power meter we use for testing, readings of less than 1 watt may not be entirely accurate. We will still report the data the meter provides, but you should take results of less than 1 watt with a grain of salt.

Watts: Power on: Measured using the default settings when the TV's picture is on. Typically the default picture settings represent "torch mode," with high light output and correspondingly high power consumption, but some new models, such as the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U, default to a more-efficient picture mode when the user indicates a "home" rather than a "store" environment during initial setup.

Per square inch: The "Watts: Power on" result divided by the screen size of the TV in square inches.

Score (overall): A rating of Good, Average or Poor is assigned to each TV according to the "Watts: Power on" measurement. The top third of the TVs on this chart, currently models that consume below 208.202 watts, score "Good." The bottom third, currently models that consume above 280.562 watts, score "Poor." TVs that fall into the middle of the range score "Average." Note that the difference between any of these scores can be as little as a fraction of a watt.

Score (per size): A rating of Good, Average or Poor is assigned to each TV according to the "per square inch" measurement. The top third of the TVs on this chart, currently models that consume less than 0.2754 watt per square inch, score "Good." The bottom third, currently models that consume more than 0.3180 watt, score "Poor." TVs that fall into the middle of the range score "Average."

Annual cost: The amount of money the TV would cost to run over 365 days, assuming it's turned on for 8 hours a day and off for 16. We currently use the average price of energy in the U.S. during 2007, which is 10.6 cents per kilowatt hour according to the Energy Information Administration.

Notes: This chart contains 104 TVs tested by CNET for power consumption between roughly January 2006 and June 2008. For additional details on our testing methodology, check out How we test TV power consumption. Further power consumption data, namely wattage consumed in picture modes other than default, is available in the Juice Box at the bottom of every CNET HDTV review published since June 22, 2007.

Here you go.

cnet categorized them all as HD, though I'm not sure that rear projection would be my idea of "HD"
