MCCB price versus KA (short circuit rating)

07/28/2008 2:29 AM

In a 6.6kV Switchgear, there are 630A & 800A MCCBs (Molded Case Circuit Breakers).

What is the price difference between 50kA & 70kA ratings for these MCCBs?

If possible, please introduce useful sites in this regard, too.

Thanks in advance.

Pls find out, MCCBs are not the appropriate type of breakers for 6.6KV switchgear while 50/70KA seems too high for that type of switchgear.

moreover, actual meaning of KA rating must be clealy understood b4 looking for the price difference.

However, which make of the breaker are you actually intested in (Siemens, ABB, MG, LC etc)

Understand the basics.

Thanks for your reply.

I modified my question to LV MCCB in the next forum, but I couldn't delete this question.

regarding make of the breaker: Siemens or ABB is prefered.

Do you have any information about the price difference of 400V MCCBs of rating 50kA and 70kA, Siemens or ABB type?

As a thumb-rule, ABB 70KA Breakers are expensive by about 15% than 50KA, 400 V Breakers.

But you should not be buying on price. If you have 60kA of available fault current, saving money with MCCBs rated at 50kAIC will not be a valid decision. If you have only 40kA available, there is no reason to buy a breaker rated for 70kAIC over one rated for 50kAIC unless there is a chance that your system capacity is going to increase.

Thanks for your reply chhotu1990 & JRaef !

I am not going to decide acc to price!

It is the problem:

We received a proposal from SWGR manufacturers in one of our projects. The first short circuit calculation (done by our consultant) showed that the SC level is 50kA. But, the second revision showed that SC is 70KA. The received proposed price from Manufacturers changed base on: 20% increase for copper & new mechanical design + 20% increase in price for each MCCB.

I wanted to check it.

Hi,

If you care to know about 600A MCCB of 50KA and 600A MCCB of 70KA,the difference between them is their breaking capacity 70KA is greater than that of 50KA.Obviously,the price will be higher.

However, you mentioned two different things entirely i.e. 600A and 800A.Nevertheless,the same goes for that of 800A.

Best regards.
