S.S. Jacketted Gaskets

07/28/2008 10:58 AM

Which standard/s cover stainless steel jacketted gaskets?

As width of the standard S.S. plates are 1.2 / 1.5 meters;

How many joints are allowed in these gaskets?

Hi Anilrdeo,

I am unsure precisely what information you are looking for.

ASME VIII, Division 2, Appendix 3 gives you information on the Gasket Factor and Minimum Design Seating Stress.

For a Flat metal, jacketed asbestos filled stainless steel gasket, the above ASME standard states the gasket factor to be 3.75 and the min design seating stress to be 9000psi (62MPa).

Depends on which flange you are working on (if in fact it is a flange at all).

ASME B16.20 gives you information on jacketted gaskets for ASME B16.5, B16.47 series A and B flanges.

BS EN 1514-4:1997 gives you some information on dimensions of gaskets for PN-designated flanges. This includes info on jacketted gaskets. I stress that this standard only gives you dimensional information, nothing else.

The company Flexitallic give you information via their PDF brochures on metal jacketted gaskets, including gaskets for heat exchangers.

Home page: http://www.flexitallic.com/

Brochures page: http://www.flexitallic.com/download_brochures.html (link no longer available)

Gasket Design Criteria PDF: http://www.flexitallic.com/pdf/designcriteria.pdf (link no longer available)

In particular pages 18 through to 20 inclusive.

You might find some information on the Donit website: http://www.donittesnit.si/

Scroll down to the bottom until you see 'Industrial Gaskets' and there will be a sub section on metal jacketted gaskets. I have not checked this link though in the past.

Munster University in Germany have launched a gasket database: http://www.reppien.com/gasketdata/index.php?p=1&lang=en (link no longer available)

You might be able to find some information on there.

Hope any of this helps you.

Kind Regards

Kev Brown

I've got some double jacketted gaskets which are having many joints. I'm confused whether to accept or reject as these gaskets will be used in high pressure joints in heat exchangers in Ammonia Plant.

I want to know whether double jacketted gaskets in all sizes are made without joints or few joints are allowed. If yes, how many joints are allowed?

I'm afraid I cant help you any further than my first post.

For any further information you will have to approach the gasket suppliers.

Sorry.
