Water Electrolysis

08/04/2008 2:57 AM

What is the best type of unit to use for electrolysis of water? I want to start to experiment with various pulse width modulators for this purpose. Does anyone know anything about this subject? I am aware of the various types of anodes and cathodes that can be used but I know nothing about the electronics used to generate diifferent forms of waves, etc. I think I willl use DC (12-24 volts), bujt I am open to using AC also. Thanks for any assistance.

You'll need to used DC if you want hydrogen and oxygen collectible separately. AC will give you a highly explosive mixture of the two gasses at each electrode.

I want to collect hydrogen and oxygen together and use them for fuel in auto engines. It is commonly referred to as Brown's gas or HHO gas. Thanks for any help!

Please type HHO into the "Search all of CR4" box, and click GO.

Spend a few hours reading through the (dozens of) threads which will be listed.

Then think of something more useful to do with your time.

Sorry,

John.

Hi again,

I would also like to know the best material to use for cathodes and anodes. I do not know the difference between carbon and graphite, and want to know if 316L S/S is better to use than the carbon or graphite. Also, how does a graphite electrode get connected to wires? Again, any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
